β-Defensin-2, also known as hBD-2, is a type of antimicrobial peptide found in humans. It consists of 41 amino acids, with six cysteines in its sequence that randomly form disulfide bonds under natural conditions, contributing to its stable structure. This peptide is characterized by its broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, making it an important component of the innate immune system.The molecular formula of β-Defensin-2 is C188H305N55O55S6, and its molecular weight is approximately 4328.23 Daltons. It is highly purified, with a purity level of at least 95.0% by HPLC, and is typically vacuum-packed in aluminum foil or transparent bags for storage at -20°C in a dark environment to maintain its stability.
